Hard Rock Zombies is a 1985 American comedy horror film co-written and directed by Krishna Shah. It centers on a heavy metal band that gets killed by a Nazi cult that despises music. The band is accidentally revived as zombies when lyrics copied from a medieval grimoire are played, and their songs go on to create more zombies. The film was distributed by Cannon Film Distributors in September 1985.
The band Holy Moses, led by singer and bassist Jessie, is told by their manager Ron that they will play a small conservative California town to impress record executive Don Matson. Before leaving, Jessie meets a girl named Cassie, who warns him to stay away. On the road, the band meets Elsa, who invites them to her family’s mansion. In town, locals are hostile, and the sheriff jails the band without cause; Cassie bails them out. A town council meeting then bans rock music, and Cassie’s father grabs a shotgun to kill the band.
At the mansion, Jessie writes a song based on an ancient Latin text said to raise the dead, accidentally reviving a dead tarantula. Meanwhile, Elsa and her mother Eva—a werewolf—murder the other band members. Cassie warns Jessie, but Eva’s groundskeeper Olaf kills Jessie with a weedwhacker. After the funeral, Ron learns that Elsa’s father is Adolf Hitler, who faked his death and plans a Fourth Reich. Cassie plays Jessie’s tape, resurrecting Holy Moses as zombies. The band kills Elsa, Eva, Olaf, Hitler, and the rest of the family. When townsfolk investigate, Hitler and his family return as zombies and turn many civilians, including the sheriff and Cassie’s father, into zombies.
Cassie escapes to a theater where Holy Moses is scheduled to play. Don Matson attends, impressed, but zombies attack. Matson is turned, and the band returns to their graves. Survivors decide to sacrifice Cassie as a virgin sex slave to appease the zombies. Ron convinces the band to rise again, and they distract the zombies with a song while Ron saves Cassie. The band lures the zombies into a secret underground chamber, where Ron activates poison gas, killing all zombies, including the band. Ron leaves town; Cassie mourns Jessie, whose hand bursts from his grave. She caresses it and says she will love him forever.
